Paul Copan’s responds in his new book that will be titled Is God a Moral Monster?: Making Sense of the Old Testament God.
I have read Copan’s article by the same name in the journal of the Evangelical Philosophical Society. It’s worth the read.
In today’s atmosphere, this is simply an issue that has to be addressed. Christians can’t avoid the topic and must formulate a clear response to the moral conscience of a secular society. I also think our society holds the church responsible for a morally intelligent response to homosexuality and the role of women.
Of course, the message of a dying Savior has a compelling magnetism all on its own apart from answers to these questions. Our message is not our stands on this or that issue. But we should feel responsible to clarify why the message of a dying Savior does not lead to a culture of oppression and tyranny.
