Newsis that Tim Haggard and his wife are going on TV’s Divorce Court. How could this be? Why would it be? This kind of behavior gives some insight into ministry at New Life Church in Colorado Springs before Ted left. And it makes you wonder about the underpinnings of the ministry. In the middle of it was a man who could not get off of the stage.
Remember when Elijah was hidden by God for a time? Elijah was an arrow that God put back in the quiver until it was time for God to string his bow again and choose a man. It seems that Ted will not go into the quiver. Jesus Himself spent 30 silent years and then only three years in public ministry. How unlike Him I am. I must have a run of more than three years. I AM IMPORTANT, DOGGONE IT, AND I AM GOING TO BE IN THE MIDDLE NO MATTER WHAT!!!!
The sheer thrill of being in some way useful to God can make us His adversaries. I remember a sermon by Alexander McClaren about that moment when Moses was taken by God up to the mountain to die and not enter into the promised land. He painted the picture of Moses walking through the camp of Israel. Men and women and children came to the door of their tents and watched in silence as Moses passed through on his way up the side of that mountain. What a solemn sight. And yet how noble. God had said it was time, and Moses handed over to God his life and ministry. It was a moment when Israel learned that God’s work is bigger than any man.
May God spare us these Haggard moments that we all can have. When it comes time to go back into the quiver until God strings His bow again, go calmly into that quiet.
