Yes, that’s right. I can’t even count the days of Lent, since I listed yesterday as the twenty-fifth day. Oh, well. Click on the following link for the Lenten reading in the Church Fathers for today: Church Fathers Lenten Reading Plan: With Texts. Scroll down to page 126.

If I repent of anything, it is likely to be my good behavior
Posted by Don Bryant on March 5, 2008
Henry David Thoreau was right: “The greater part of what my neighbors call good I believe in my soul to be bad, and if I repent of anything, it is likely to be my good behavior. What demon possessed me, that I behaved so well?”
I have so often handed over my models for good behavior to the crowd who somehow convinced me that some of the things deep in my soul were not good, unrealistic, idiosyncratic, weird. And so I ended up spending money the way they spend it, doing church the way they do it, hanging around who they hang around, tolerating what they tolerate, calling good what my soul told me to run away from. Yes, I have behaved so well. I want my soul back.
