Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent

As part of my Lent discipline I will be reading a selction from the Church Fathers each day, per the suggestion of iMonk. Click here for today’s reading from the Didache. The Didache (meaning “Teaching” in Greek) is the common name of a brief early Christian treatise dated by most scholars to the early second century, containing instructions for Christian communities. The text, parts of which may have constituted the first written catechism, has three main sections dealing with Christian lessons, rituals such as baptism and eucharist, and Church organization. Such was its influence that it was considered by some of the Church Fathers as part of the New Testament.
