Yes, that’s right – a model. I am the guy on the left of the book cover of John Stott’s Our Guilty Silence. The other two people are my friends Rich and Kathy Hardison. Not bad, eh? A John Stott book.
InterVarsity Press had asked a fellow at our church who was a commercial graphic artist to shoot a cover for the book, and he asked some of us college guys to pose for this shot. Some people think tape on my mouth is a good idea. It actually is what my first grade teacher did to me in class. I still remember the milk and cookies going by. Somethings don’t change.
I was 19 years of age at the time of the photo. A long time ago. It has actually been many years since I saw the book. I lent my copy to a friend and that was the last I saw of it. Recently I went on Amazon and found a used copy hoping this would be the edition with me on the cover. (Self-obsessed?) For $3 I have now retrieved my own copy.
By the way, it’s a great book. It’s no longer in print (at least with the current title). I wonder how many times over the years I kept silent about the gospel. When you have your picture on the cover of a book about evangelism, there is little excuse for not sharing.
