Books I am reading
Posted by Don Bryant on June 1, 2007
My recent library checkouts:
The Emerging Church – Don Kimball
Unspeakable: Facing Up to Evil in an Age of Genocide and Terror, Os Guiness
The Secret Message of Jesus – Brian Maclaren
Invitation to the Classics – Louise Cowan and Os Guiness
Hildegard of Bingen – Carmen Butcher
Development of Christian Doctrine – Cardinal John Henry Newman
Robert Frost: A Life, Parini, Jay
Taxonomy of educational objectives : the classification of educational goals, Bloom
I have switched how I do book reading and buying. Now I first borrow from the library and then I purchase if there is something of a lasting quality about the book. So I am reading more and buying less. Wish I had done this years ago. My old theory was that if a book was worth reading it was worth buying. I took St Augustine’s advice: “Keep the old coat, buy the new book.” I don’t think he had an interlibrary loan program.

I like this!!!

I recently ran across a thank you note to someone who made a donation to an organization to research the cure for Cystic Fibrosis. It read, “Thank you for your donation. We are adding tomorrows every day.” What a great way to say it. Same thing at church – we are adding endless tomorrows with endless blessings. It doesn’t get better than that.
