Hardware, Software and Heartware

I was listening to a program on the BBC about the creation of the Lord of the Rings movie. The figure Gollum was totally a computer creation, a computer creation that the movie’s director had to trust the software people to have the heartware to create. So much in the movie relied on Gollum to make it hang together – blow it there and a lot would be lost. It all would come down to heartware- the capacity of the programmers to imagine, feel and see Gollum, create the software to make it happenĀ and then put it together.
The director did all he could do. Now it came down to heart. It was quite a risk for the director, but to get what he wanted he had to rely on others to put a character into the movie which he himself could not create.
Makes me think of God as heartware. We do what we do – out of obedience, faithfulness, persevering Christ-following. But to make it work, we have to hand it over to God’s heart. Not just His wisdom and power. To His heart!!! God is not a mechanic who makes all things work together for good. He is a creator with desire – an unyielding passion to make my life more than a B grade movie.
When I cannot understand His power nor probe His wisdom, I can feel His heart. And I trust Him.
