A Follow-up on “a million-more or less”

Posted by Don Bryant on December 15, 2006

I wrote recently on the use of the word million to get people’s attention, as in, less than one million people attend Coastal Church. How much less? Doesn’t matter. Just keep that word million in your mind. Inflates things.

Ran across a book (no joke) titled, How To Make Almost A Million Dollars: I Almost Did It. You Can Almost Do It, Too! For some stupid reason I want to read that book. Probably just because it mentions the word million. To top it off, the advertisement points out that “half the world can now read the book in their native language.” Another understatement, since half the world can read English. Throw in the word million and half the world and soon you get people’s attention.

Let’s just make this thing look big, no matter how small it is! I wonder how Jesus would do ministry in a day of mass marketing. Just wondering. Maybe being born in a stable in a no name place to a poor family gives us some kind of hint.
