There is a book in the Coastal bookstore the women are using for their Bible study. At the top in bold coloring it declares “one third of a million copies sold.” One third of a million? Isn’t that really about 330,000? What’s with the million thing? Interestingly enough the book is “Lies Women Believe.” I am wondering if the cover of the book invites me to think “million” when in fact the reality is 330,000, a lie of sorts. (By the way, it’s a great book).
So I am thinking of putting on the cover of my articles and on the TV show I host, “Read (or seen) by less than one million.” Let’s think million, folks. Whatever we do, let that number stick in your mind. And whatever you do, don’t let it occur to the reader that 700,000 less than one million read the book, “Lies Women Believe.”
This could change the way we rewrite the Bible. Less than one million converted on the day of Pentecost. Less than one million fed by the five loaves and two fish. You get the picture.
Remember when McDonald’s use to put on their signs how many hamburgers they sold? It was something like “more than however many billion sold.” Maybe McDonald’s states the truth a bit more exacting than we do.
So the next time the Leadership Team asks me about attendance figures at Coastal, I am going to say, “less than one million.”
