My son, Jon, is doing graduate work at the University of Chicago. He remarked to me that at first the culture of that school was uncomfortable for him. It seemed the ultimate nonconformity. No norms, no fads, no group think. Differences were shouted. Quite a bit different from Jon’s engineering school as well as his experience playing college football where a lot was about fitting in and order and control. At UofC one hardly knew where to fit in.  But he found out that is the point. It is not about fitting in. It is about growing into you, the unique you, the you no one else could be. Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ

At Coastal this advent season we are reading the book by this title, written by John Piper. It is a short book of 13 chapters. The theme is simple: there is in Christ a beauty, a splendour that satisfies the longings of our ever-hungry hearts. It is this beauty that the Evil One chiefly attacks. If he can weaken our vision of the glory that is in Jesus then he can diminish our worship and weaken our obedience. Read the rest of this entry »
